Google Docs appears to have a range of uses both in the classroom and at a faculty organisational level. Flexibility is available as both existing and new documents can be shared. In addition the documents being created and developed can be accessed from any computer not limiting the use of the document to one network.
Students tend to be more engaged when creating documents on line. Google docs provides the opportunity for the students to work collaboratively and overcomes many of the issues that can arise from group work where a group of students are huddled around one computer all trying to contribute. Group works can be completed at home. When using speadsheets students can be responsible for the entering of different pieces of data to complete the spread sheet.
From a teacher's point of view it is possible to view who has added material and when. This is of great assistance when judging the successful operation of the group.
At a faculty level the collabortive development of both resources and assessment instruments would be posssible with the use of Google docs. The latest version would not be confused with earlier drafts ensuring that each faculty member is working on the same document.
Hi Ann, hope you're well.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Google Docs is a great way for students to work collaboratively. I definitely see it's potential to eliminate issues arising from group work. I can see it working well in Science when students need to work in groups to complete the Science Research Project.
